What is a Lipid Panel Test?

A Lipid Panel test is a test for cholesterol. It has long been know that cholesterol can lead to heart disease. At least the bad levels of cholesterol aka LDL. However, it is equally important to have good levels of the good cholesterol aka HDL.

Typically a Cholesterol test is best done in the morning after fasting for 9-12 hours.  The test will check to see what the overall fat and cholesterol is in your bloodstream.  This is one of the most important tests to get on an annual basis if you have a history of heart disease or are overweight.

Results you want to see:

For LDL “Bad Cholesterol”:  <  than 100 (mg/dL) is optimal.

For HDL: HDL 60 mg/dL or higher is good.
