Lose the “Love Chub”

Well it is Valentine’s Day and if you are in a relationship you may be experiencing what some call “love chub.” Love chub is when you get comfortable with your partner and start to become lax about dieting and exercise which leads to weight gain.  I have definitely been there. In fact, I am currently struggling to lose my love chub after being married for just over 3 years.

The sad truth is that over 60% of Americans are either overweight or obese. So the problem with love chub is that it can bring on a slew of health problems. According to the CDC being overweight and obese can increase your risk of Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes, Cancers including endometrial, breast, and colon, Hypertension also referred to as high blood pressure, Dyslipidemia (high total cholesterol or high levels of triglycerides), Stroke, Liver and Gallbladder Disease, Sleep Apnea and respiratory problems, Arthritis, and gynecological problems (abnormal menses, infertility).

The best way to avoid love chub is for you and your partner to get active together. Some examples of great together activities include ice skating, dancing, bowling, bicycling, etc. These activities can be fun and help motivate you to get off the couch.   Also, when you both commit to eating healthier, it makes it easier for both to stay on track.
