Massages ARE Good!

A recent article in MensHealth found that having regular massages is actually not just relaxing but really beneficial in a variety of ways. Here is the link. It’s just too bad that they are often expensive and time consuming. And as much as they can help lower your stress, cortisol levels, and manage depression – it doesn’t mean that getting a massage should exempt you from checking your Cortisol levels if you are constantly stressed and/or depressed.

Cortisol helps the body use sugar and fat for energy, and it also helps the body manage stress. The level of Cortisol may show problems with the adrenal glands or pituitary gland. Some symptoms include:

  • Weight loss and decreased appetite
  • Muscle weakness
  • Fatigue
  • Slow healing of sores and infections
  • Darkening of the skin (hyper pigmentation)
  • Stress, depression, anxiety, irritability, and/or loss of emotional control
  • New or worsened high blood pressure
  • Low blood pressure
  • Cravings for salt
  • Irregular or absent menstrual periods in females
  • Decreased sex drive
