Stress Relieving Foods

We find ourselves in an age where stress and anxiety are daily and almost accepted way of life. Dwelling over job security, the economy, and rising health care costs can cause stress in almost anyone. So you may have heard that the best way to beat stress is to exercise and eat right, and in addition here is a list of foods known to help relieve stress:

Almonds: Almonds are a good source of serotonin which helps to control mood as well as zinc which has been shown to fight the negative effects of stress.

Beef: Beef has been given a bad rap over the years, but as long as you choose lean cuts you will get a good dose of Vitamin B, Zinc, and Iron.

Blueberries: Blueberries are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, which help keep stress at bay.

Broccoli: Broccoli is chock-full of B vitamins, and also contains folic acid which helps relief stress relief, anxiety, panic, and depression.

Cottage Cheese: Cottage cheese is a light snack that is loaded with Vitamin B2 and B12.

Fish: Aside from being an excellent source of Omega 3, fish also has a significant amount of Vitamin B12, which aids in the production of serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that plays a key role in balancing emotions including stress.

Milk: In addition to vitamins B2 and B12 (like cottage cheese), milk also contains antioxidants which help increase immune response and neutralize free radicals.

Oranges: Oranges contain Vitamin C which is crucial in the fight against stress in the human body.

Sushi: Seaweed maki has been known to have anti-anxiety properties. The seaweed contains magnesium, vitamin B2, and pantothenic acid. This acid aids in adrenal gland health, which play a key role in stress management.
