Stressed For the Holidays

I’ll keep this short and sweet – because we are all probably getting somewhat stressed-out as we get closer and closer to the biggest national holiday. So, if you are feeling stressed and have been, for say more than the last week or two, I would recommend that you schedule to have your Cortisol levels checked. It’s very affordable – 49 bucks – and can actually help relieve some of your holiday stress to begin with. You’ll then be able to figure out if any of these symptoms below are actually due to abnormal Cortisol levels and not just because you have no Christmas presents yet for your in-laws that are coming to stay with you for the weekend and you can’t seem to sleep. But enough about my stress, here are some of the symptoms you’ll want to keep an eye out for:

  • Weight gain, particularly around your midsection and upper back
  • Rounding of your face (moon face)
  • Fatty pad or hump between your shoulders (buffalo hump)
  • Weight loss and decreased appetite
  • Muscle weakness
  • Fatigue
  • Facial flushing
  • Slow healing of sores and infections
  • Depression, anxiety, irritability, and/or loss of emotional control
  • New or worsened high blood pressure
  • Cravings for salt
  • Irregular or absent menstrual periods in females
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Trouble getting or maintaining an erection in males (erectile dysfunction also known as ED)
