Want to Help Avoid Type 2 Diabetes? Eat More Yogurt

Seems easy enough…right? It’s easy to do, fairly reasonably priced and very accessible – I don’t think you can walk into any convenient store now-a-days without seeing it on refrigerated shelves. In addition, most of it is actually really, really tasty. With flavors like raspberry, pomegranate, blueberry, mango, (and on and on and on) it’s hard not to like yogurt.

And now that researchers at the Medical Research Council in Britain have found that eating it could reduce your risk of Type 2 Diabetes by 28%, well then I say it almost impossible not to like. It’s not just yogurt either, cheese and other dairy products as part of an overall healthy diet and keeping an eye on your blood sugar levels will cut your risk as well.

The Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) is a blood test which serves as an initial broad screening tool. It measures your blood sugar level, electrolyte balance, fluid balance, kidney function, and liver function.  Abnormal blood sugar levels could indicate diabetes, and further testing may be required.

Now only if the Russian government would read this and allow the yogurt to be flown in for our Olympians – what’s the harm in reducing their risk of diabetes? I suppose they have another agenda though unfortunately for our athletes.
