Warning Signs of a Stroke

If you experience any of the symptoms below immediately call 9-1-1. If treatment can begin within 3 hours of symptom onset it may reduce long-term disability for the most common type of stroke.

Use the pneumonic F.A.S.T. to help you recognize the symptoms of a Stroke.

F is for Face

  • Uneven Smile
  • Facial Droop/Numbness especially on one side of the body
  • Trouble seeing in one or both eyes
  • Sudden and severe headache with no known cause

A is for Arms and Legs

  • Weakness especially on one side of the body
  • Numbness especially on one side of the body
  • Difficulty Walking
  • Dizziness
  • Loss of Balance

S is for Speech

  • Slurred
  • Inappropriate words
  • Mute
  • Inability to comprehend

T is for Time

  • Call 911
  • Get to the nearest Stroke Center or Hospital ASAP
