InformationWhat is a TSH test?
A Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) Test is blood test that will confirm levels of thyroid hormones, and evaluate whether the thyroid’s hormone production is normal, overactive, or underactive. The thyroid gland produces hormones that are essential for metabolism.
The TSH Test is part of our Essential and Essential Plus Screening Panels.
TestingWhy should I get tested?
Screening is recommended for those over 60 or who have a family history of autoimmune disease. Also, if you are experiencing fatigue, cold intolerance, constipation, dry/flaky skin, tremors, excessive sweating, smooth/soft skin, fine hair, a rapid heart rate you may want to get a TSH Test.
How should I prepare for the test?
A TSH Test does not require any special preparation.
ResultsWhat could my screening results mean?
Elevated levels of TSH may indicate hypothyroidism, while decreased levels may indicate hyperthyroidism.
If a TSH test indicates abnormalities, you should consult your healthcare provider for further analysis. Also, tell your healthcare provider if you are taking steroids, aspirin or any other drugs as they can interfere with test results.
